1080i TV gets unsupported signal of 1080p

Hello there,

When I plug my chromecast in my TV (chromecast is already configurated with the wifi network etc), and I boot it up, I see the boot logo, then black screen.

Yes, I already tested the chromecast on my external screen: it's working sweet on my external screen.

Lots of people have the same issue: this is related due UNABLE to specify the output resolution of the chromecast.

My TV supports 1080i, but not 1080p. Chromecast thinks it supports 1080p, so it sends an unsupported signal to the tv, in technical terms we call it a HDMI EDID fail.

This can be fixed if they make an option for it to select the output signal. Of course they prefer to keep the config options simple by leaving this option out because the average muppet doesn't understand the differences between 720p and 1080p.

There MUST be a way to manually set the output signal. I know you can send commands via CURL;

For example: to force update the chromecast instead of the lame wait-timespan of 2 weeks to receive the update:

curl -X POST -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"params": "ota foreground"}' http : // <chromecastIp>:8008/setup/reboot -v

So I guess there is also a setting for the output? What is the command for that?

Answers to standard questions:

Are you seeing any particular error message? No

What’s your TV’s make and model? 32PF9531/10

What OS are you using to cast (every possible OS except chromebook)?

Kind regards,

Vincent
